As summer warms the days and sunlight fills our homes, it’s the perfect time to breathe fresh life into every corner, starting with one of the most frequently used but often overlooked spaces: the bathroom. Whether you’re in the heart of Charlotte with me or anywhere in the world, summer is your cue to renew. Let’s talk about how a summer refresh of your bathroom can set the tone for living an organized life all year long.
As a professional organizer, I’ve helped countless women turn their bathrooms from chaotic catchalls into calming sanctuaries. This transformation doesn’t require a full remodel—just intentional steps and smart solutions to maximize your space and simplify your routine.
Why the Bathroom Deserves a Summer Refresh
Bathrooms are one of the first spaces we enter in the morning and one of the last at night. They have a direct impact on how we start and end our days. A cluttered bathroom leads to rushed mornings and missed self-care moments. But an organized bathroom fosters clarity, confidence, and calm, a lifestyle goal many of my clients are working to cultivate.
A summer refresh allows you to:
Eliminate expired products and unnecessary clutter
Redesign your space for functionality and flow
Reintroduce beauty and intention into your daily routines
Change the decor to uplift the space
Let’s walk through the step-by-step process I use with clients that you can apply today.
Step 1: Declutter with Purpose
Start by pulling everything out of your drawers, cabinets, bins, and shelves. Yes, everything. You can’t organize clutter, you can only eliminate it or hide it. Once it’s all out, use these powerful decluttering questions I often ask my clients:
Have I used this in the last 3 months?
Is this product still effective, sanitary, or within expiration?
Do I actually like and reach for this item?
Say goodbye to dried-out mascara, crusty lotions, and hotel toiletries you’re never going to use. Keep only what adds value to your routines.
Pro Tip: While pulling the items out, create three piles - Keep, Toss, Donate. Keep what works, toss what’s expired or unusable, and donate unopened or lightly used products that could benefit someone else (check local women's shelters or community centers in your area).
Step 2: Organize by Zones
Now that you’ve cleared the clutter, it’s time to categorize and contain.
Think of your bathroom as having zones, just like a kitchen or office. Each item should live in a “zone” based on function:
Daily Essentials: Toothbrushes, skincare, hairbrushes
Backstock: Extra toilet paper, unopened shampoo bottles
Self-Care Supplies: Masks, bath bombs, nail care, body wash, soap and lotions
Cleaning Products: Disinfectants, wipes, toilet bowl cleaner
Medical Needs: First-aid, prescriptions, pain relievers
Once categorized, it’s time to contain each zone in a functional and beautiful way. This is where thoughtful organizing tools come into play.

Pro Tip: You only purchase organizing products for what you keep, not for what you had when you started. I know it may be a pain in the butt and may seem counterintuitive but you don’t want to by organizing product until you have decluttered.
Step 3: Use Smart Organizing Products
Choosing the right organizing products makes a huge difference in maintaining long-term order.
These bins are ideal for under-the-sink storage or deep cabinets. They help you quickly find what you need while keeping categories separate and visible. The handles make it easy to slide out and access contents, whether it's extra razors, feminine products, or travel-size toiletries.
This lazy susan is a game changer for medicine cabinets or inside vanity drawers. Use it to store small skincare jars, nail polishes, or first-aid supplies. The spinning base gives you full access, and the tiered design doubles your vertical space.
Maximize vertical space with this sleek shelf. It’s perfect for storing rolled towels, baskets of toilet paper, or displaying a touch of décor. This is especially helpful in smaller Charlotte homes or apartments with limited cabinet space.

Step 4: Beautify & Personalize
Once your systems are in place, add personality to your space. A bathroom doesn’t have to feel sterile or utilitarian—it should reflect your energy and style. Here are a few small touches that can elevate your newly organized space:
Add a faux plant or vase of eucalyptus for a spa-like feel.
Use matching soap dispensers, not the ones that products come in.
Choose bright or neutral hand towels and a soft new bath mat to reflect the warmth of the season.

Step 5: Maintain the Refresh
The key to a lasting bathroom organization system is maintenance. Here are a few habits I encourage my clients to adopt:
Do a quick reset weekly: restock toilet paper, wipe down surfaces, and put items back where they belong.
Revisit drawers once a month to toss empties or dried-up items.
Buy in moderation, resist the urge to overstock just because it’s on sale. (Trust me, your future self will thank you.)
Think of your bathroom as a living space, not just a functional one. You deserve peace in every part of your home, even the smallest spaces.
The Organized Life Begins in the Details
When I work with clients, especially women balancing full schedules, families, and careers, I emphasize this truth: organization is not about perfection—it’s about peace and productivity. A well-ordered bathroom might seem like a small win, but it sets the tone for more mindful, productive days.
Embrace this season as an invitation to create space for what matters. Your morning routines, skincare rituals, and even quick showers deserve the same attention as your kitchen or closet.
If you're overwhelmed and don't know where to start, contact a professional organizer who can guide you through the process. Sometimes a second pair of eyes and hands can make all the difference.
Ready to Refresh?
Let this summer be the moment you reclaim your bathroom—and a bit of your sanity. Start with one drawer, one shelf, or one product. Then build from there. Every step you take toward organization is a step toward a lifestyle of peace and productivity.
