Let’s be real, most people don’t love doing the task of laundry. It piles up quickly, becomes overwhelming fast, and often ends with clean clothes sitting in baskets for days or even weeks. Maybe you’ve attempted “laundry day” routines that turned into laundry weekends. Or you’ve made a silent vow to put clothes away right after folding, only for them to stay draped over a chair for days. If this sounds like your life, trust me, you’re not alone.
For many households, laundry is one of the most needed yet most avoided tasks. And while the physical task is draining, it’s the mental clutter that weighs us down, from digging for matching socks, to realizing towels are still in the washer when guests arrive, maybe discovering your child has no clean socks minutes before leaving the house, or maybe having to wash a load over that we forgot was left in the washing machine.
Here’s the truth: laundry becomes stressful when there's no strategy or system in place. But what if laundry didn’t have to feel like a never ending chore? What if it could actually bring you peace?
That’s what this Laundry Transformation is here to do.
Why Most Laundry Setups Fail
Many people approach laundry from a reactive place instead of a proactive one. They focus only on washing and drying, while completely ignoring the rest of the laundry cycle, sort, fold, hang, and put away. The irony is, we wear clothes every day, yet try to wash them every two weeks or worse, once a month.
Here’s why most laundry systems fall apart:
No rhythm: If laundry isn’t part of your regular routine, you’ll always be behind.
Lack of planning: Laundry needs to be scheduled, just like your hair or nail appointments.
Too many clothes: You’ve gotten behind in laundry and now it’s overflowing.
No clear home: Clean clothes end up homeless with no designated space to call home.
One-person burnout: If one person handles all the laundry, burnout is inevitable.
The solution isn’t magic, it’s a system that works for your life. Let me walk you through the six steps that have transformed my clients' homes and helped them live a truly organized life.
The 6 Steps of the Laundry Transformation
1. The Reset
Start with a clean slate. Work on one person’s clothes or one space at a time to avoid confusion and burnout. Begin by washing everything that needs cleaning. As clothes are being washed and dried, begin purging and sorting what’s already clean.
Ask yourself:
Have I worn this in the past year?
Would I buy this again today?
Am I keeping this out of guilt or habit?
Use the 20/20 rule: If it can be replaced for less than $20 and in under 20 minutes—and you don’t love it, let it go.
Be thorough. Check closets, drawers, laundry bins, and even bags. Leave no stone unturned.
2. Reimagine the Space
This isn’t just about the laundry room. Reimagine where your clean clothes can return to: your closet, your drawers, your bins. Reimagine what your morning and evening routine can look like! Reimagine what you want your room and your closet to feel like. Now’s the time to create a space that works for the way you live, work and play.
Ask yourself:
Is it easy to get dressed in the morning?
Are my drawers overflowing and unorganized?
Do my most-used items live in my most accessible space?
Maybe it’s time for some new hangers, drawer dividers, or closet bins. Take this opportunity to reset the flow of your wardrobe and refresh how clothes move and flow through your home.
3. Create Your S.Y.S.T.E.M
Laundry is a cycle, not a one-time task. Your system should serve you, not drain you.

Here’s how to build a laundry S.Y.S.T.E.M:
Space: Create zones for dirty and clean laundry.
Time: Assign laundry days, 1 to 3 times per week depending on your family size.
Energy: Complete laundry session by person to reduce trips and confusion when you are doing the reset. Get the family involved.
Money: Stop buying new clothes out of frustration. Shop your own closet first!
If your current process isn’t Saving You Space, Time, Energy, and Money, it’s time to tweak it.
4. Organize by Lifestyle, Not Just Location
Don’t organize based on what looks good on Pinterest. Organize based on how you live, work and play.
For example, I group all my field work uniforms together, my workout clothes together, and I keep my pajamas and undergarments right by the bathroom. It aligns with how I move throughout my day. It feels very natural to me.
Your system should reflect your real life, not a staged closet shoot.
5. Make It a Family Affair
You are not the housekeeper, you’re the strategy and system creator. Train your household to follow the system. Assign roles based on age and ability. Even young kids can help by folding towels or matching socks.

When my boys were in middle school, they were already managing their own laundry independent of me. Start small and build up their responsibilities.
This teaches independence, life skills, and respect for the home and their belongings.
6. Maintain the Flow
The real magic is in the maintenance.
Set laundry days and stick to them. Use trackers, checklists, or phone reminders to help. And most importantly, always complete the cycle: sort, wash, dry, fold, hang, and put away.
When done consistently, laundry no longer feels like a chaotic chore, it becomes a peaceful routine and rhythm the whole family has adopted.
You Deserve Peace
Your laundry system shouldn’t be about perfection. It should be about creating peace, productivity, and freedom.
With the right strategy in place, laundry becomes less of a burden and more of a breeze. You’ll find your favorite clothes faster, eliminate the stress of last-minute loads, and even teach your family how to manage their laundry independently.
You deserve a home that works for you, not against you. That starts by embracing what I teach every day:
Remember: “It’s a lifestyle, not magic.” 💫
