Spring Break Packing Tips: Pack Smart

  1. Start with a Packing List

Creating a packing list eliminates last-minute panic and ensures you don’t forget essentials. Use categories such as:

  • Clothing: Outfits for each day, including swimwear, casual wear, and formal wear.

  • Toiletries: Travel-size shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, and skincare essentials.

  • Tech Gear: Chargers, headphones, and power banks.

  • Documents: ID, passport, itinerary, and emergency contacts.

  • Miscellaneous: Books, snacks, sunglasses, and medication.

Pro Tip #1: Save your list digitally so you can reuse and tweak it for future trips.

Pro Tip #2: Many resorts provide a packing list that will help you pack for your trip.

  1. Use Packing Cubes for Organization

Packing cubes are a game-changer for keeping your suitcase neat, organized and accessible. Organize by category (e.g., tops, bottoms, accessories) or by outfit. If you're traveling with family, assign each person a color-coded set of cubes to keep everything in order.

  1. Roll, Don’t Fold

Rolling clothes instead of folding saves space and reduces wrinkles. This method is especially useful for maximizing space in carry-ons.

  1. Utilize Every Inch of Space

Stuff socks inside shoes, store small items in hat brims, and use compression bags for bulkier clothing like jackets. If flying, ensure that liquids are in a TSA-approved clear bag and TSA - Approved Travel Bottles. These help to keep your toiletries organized and leak-free.

  1. Pack a “First-Night” Bag

Keep a small bag with essentials like pajamas, toiletries, and a fresh outfit for your first morning. This prevents digging through your luggage after a long journey.

Staying Organized During Your Trip

  1. Unpack Immediately

Once you arrive at your destination, take a few minutes to unpack. Hang delicate clothing, arrange toiletries in the bathroom, and set up a designated space for dirty laundry. This small effort saves time and keeps your space organized throughout your trip.

  1. Maintain Daily Order

Take a few minutes each evening to tidy up. Place shoes by the door, place dirty clothes in a bag, repack items no longer needed, and keep your itinerary easily accessible. A little organization each day prevents clutter from piling up.

  1. Keep a “Go Bag” for Daily Outings

Prepare a small backpack or crossbody bag with essentials like chapstick, sunscreen, snacks, sunglasses, and a collapsible water bottle. This way, you’re always ready for spontaneous adventures without scrambling for supplies.

  1. Do Not Over Purchase Souvenirs

When you go souvenir shopping be sure you are purchasing with a purchase. Don’t just purchase things for purchasing sake.

Unpacking and Reintegrating into Home Life

  1. Unpack As Soon As You Get Home

Avoid the temptation to leave your suitcase sitting for days. Empty your luggage within 24 hours to avoid clutter and misplaced items. Place the dirty clothes in the hamper, put the clean clothes, toiletries and misc. items back in their home. When I tell you this is a game changer. You will feel so relieved and accomplished when you master this.

  1. Sort Laundry Immediately

Separate whites, colors, and delicate items and get a load going as soon as possible. If you've been traveling to a beach or hiking location, rinse swimsuits and dirty shoes right away to prevent odors or stains.

  1. Manage Travel Essentials

If you have another upcoming trip in the near future go ahead and refill your travel-size toiletries. If you do not have another upcoming trip go ahead and empty and clean the travel containers. If you delay this your items will dry up and become harder to clean in the future. Check your travel gear for any missing or damaged items so you’re prepared for your next trip.

  1. Organize Souvenirs and Photos

Designate a space for souvenirs so they don’t become clutter. Upload and organize trip photos into digital albums before they get lost in your phone gallery.

  1. Reflect and Adjust for Next Time

Take note of what worked well and what didn’t. Did you overpack? Forget something essential? Jot down lessons learned for a smoother experience next time.
